Noosa Shire Council to release new Draft Planning Scheme

Draft Planning Scheme soon to be available for public consultation.

Noosa Shire Council is set to release is new Draft Planning Scheme for consultation. Replacing the 2006 planning scheme, many suggest is long overdue for the area.

We understand that there have been considerable changes to the draft planning scheme since Council endorsed it back in May 2018. The new planning scheme is a complete re-write, so we do expect to see some major changes to how development is controlled by the scheme. Key areas to be mindful of will include how the planning scheme responds to updated climate change science, coastal hazards and changing social and economic trends such as multi-faceted businesses, alternative housing options, home-sharing and market expectations around short-term accommodation options.

Given the time taken to get to this point, Council has decided to run the consultation period for 3 months, which exceeds the required 40 days set by the State Government. A permanent display space will be set up at Pelican Place, with small displays located in the two libraries and pop-up information stalls in 8 locations across the Shire.

The consultation period kicks off tomorrow, Friday 15 February 2019 and will run until Monday 20 May 2019.

Owners of property with significant zone changes will be directly advised by letter and property owners who have a usual mailing address outside the Shire will be directly notified.

Upon release, we will be reviewing the detail and providing further updates to keep our clients and allied consultants informed.

Should you have any specific queries in relation to the changes or particular properties, feel free to get in touch.
