Sunshine Coast Planning Scheme Moves Forward: draft released!
Explore how the draft scheme could shape your next project.

Sunshine Coast Council has taken a major step forward with the announcement/release of the draft new Planning Scheme, marking a significant milestone in shaping the region’s future.

Following the completion of the Queensland Government’s State Interest Review in March 2025, Council went back to the drawing board to amend the draft scheme to meet the conditions set by the State. The updated draft has now been released for formal public consultation.

What is a planning scheme?

A Planning Scheme is a comprehensive framework that will guide how the Sunshine Coast grows and evolves through to 2046. It outlines:

  • Where development should occur by zoning land appropriately
  • How development should happen through clear rules and guidelines
  • What processes are required for development applications.

Public Consultation Phase

The public consultation phase of the new planning scheme process ensures that community members including residents and property owners, business owners, developers, visitors etc. have a formal opportunity to:

  • Review proposed changes
  • Submit feedback
  • Influence decisions that may affect land use and development in their area.
